Log Wall Insulation: U Factor and R Factor

Log walls have a property that standard insulation doesn't: Thermal Mass. Thermal mass means a solid material that can retain heat and consequently, give it back. During long periods of cold weather, thermal mass becomes less important, so heating degree days must be taken into account. Because of all that, the National Association of Home Builders has come up with an insulation credit for thermal mass property. The following calculation sheet is based on that credit.
ComponentR-Value
Inside Air Film0.68
" Lodgepole Pine????(R = per inch of diameter)
Outside Air Film0.17
R Factor = ?????Before Log Wall Credit
U Factor = 1/R =?????Before Log Wall Credit
Thermal Mass Credit Calculations
based upon approx Heating Degree Days (HDD Mountain average ~ 6000)
